I’m weirdly obsessive about pushing my body to the limits of its potential, and it took me over a decade to get where I am. In the beginning, I followed a lot of traditional advice that only led to dead ends.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve tried a body-split routine where you focused on the big muscle groups and added weight/reps/sets each week. Add 10 pounds here, add a set there, etc. That was me!

I GOT STRONGER — AT FIRST — BUT I HIT TWO PROBLEMS:
  •  It got really boring. Doing the same old moves over and over just meant I ended up going through the motions at the gym. I wasn’t having fun anymore.
  •  I didn’t want to be a meathead. The goal of most body-split programs is to bulk you up, but I was a Marine and needed functional strength for running.

I tried other things too, like INSANITY, but I didn’t like it. Shaun T gave me a great sweat, but working out in front of a TV all the time wasn’t for me.


I WAS STUCK. I WAS BORED.
AND I COULDN’T BUST THROUGH MY PLATEAUS.
Eventually I got fed up, left all the traditional advice behind, and started experimenting myself with ways to increase my own functional strength and have fun — all at the same time.

Sometimes my experiments led to strange movements… like simultaneously holding a one-arm pull-up doing bicep curls.

I even tried extremely high-volume work — like 500 pull-ups a day — but that wasn’t sustainable.

I’d manage to squeeze in 300 pull-ups throughout the day, but when it was time for my head to hit the pillow at night, I’d often realize I was 200 pull-ups short. Gahhh!

These circuits are so unique that I had to make up my own name for them.
I CALLED THEM DYNAMIC STACKS.
(Very original, I know...)
Here's how they work: 
weight fitness strength
SUPERSETS: Standard weight lifting moves coupled with calisthenic movements. This works the larger muscles along with the smaller ones — THIS is what will break through your plateaus.
timer strength fitness
DECREASING REST TIMES: All the workouts have standard rest times in between sets, but as you progress those rest times decrease. This allows you to gain muscle endurance and get more work done in a shorter amount of time.
cardio strength fitness
CARDIO IS BAKED IN: There isn’t traditional cardio in this program, but you will find that you don’t need it. Because of the timed aspect of the supersets, your heart rate will stay elevated — allowing you to build strength at the same time. The American Heart Association says the target heart rate for a cardio workout for someone who is 35 years old should be anywhere between 93–157 beats per minute. You’ll find that the Strength Circuits in the BSB program should keep you at around 110 beats per minute when done correctly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I'm busy. How much time does the program take?
You just need one hour per workout, four days a week.
Why aren't there pull-ups in this program?
Future programs will focus on pull-ups. The BSB was designed to be as easy as possible to complete with very little equipment needed.
Is there a DVD?
No. This program is totally online. Once you enroll you get access to the member area where you can see all the instructional videos. You can do the workouts at home or at your local gym.
Do I get lifetime access?
Yep! So you can use the program whenever you want. I’ve even created a condensed version that graduates can use.
What equipment do I need?
None, if you already belong to a gym. If you train at home, then you’ll need a set of dumbbells and a bench (for the dumbbell bench press). Having a variety of different sized dumbbells helps, but just use what you have.
What happens after the seven weeks?
You can apply the new strength you have and move on to more advanced things. If you want to repeat the program at any time, you can do that or do the shortened version that you also get when you enroll.
Can I combine this with other workouts that I already do?
You’ll probably find the BSB is plenty to work on on its own. It’s a total-body program, so you won’t feel any areas are lacking. If you’re the type of person who likes to really push yourself, you can do other workouts as well. One of our beta students, Kelly, who is 40 years old, did the BSB along with a boot camp from her personal trainer. So anything is possible.
Is your program similar to Crossfit?
I don’t stick to any fitness dogmas. You’ll find elements of Crossfit, bodyweight calisthenics, bodybuilding, and military training in my programs.
Will I get a shredded six-pack?
There is a lot of bullshit on the internet these days promising people six-packs. Getting a six-pack depends greatly on your diet and body fat percentage. This program is not a “build-your-six-pack” program, but if you put in the work, I guarantee your core will be a lot stronger — and quite possibly stronger than people with six-packs!
Do I have to change the way I eat?
You don’t have to change anything about your diet. This isn’t a diet or eating program, but don’t expect the best results if you’re chugging soda, eating ice cream, and gorging on potato chips every day.
Can I do this if I am overweight?
If you are very overweight, I don’t recommend this program since it is not specifically geared toward weight loss. If you’ve just got a few extra pounds to lose, then the BSB will help.
