Eventually I got fed up, left all the traditional advice behind, and started experimenting myself with ways to increase my own functional strength and have fun — all at the same time.
Sometimes my experiments led to strange movements… like simultaneously holding a one-arm pull-up doing bicep curls.
I even tried extremely high-volume work — like 500 pull-ups a day — but that wasn’t sustainable.
I’d manage to squeeze in 300 pull-ups throughout the day, but when it was time for my head to hit the pillow at night, I’d often realize I was 200 pull-ups short. Gahhh!
I put in over 10 years of work to find the “magic bullet” of explosive strength. I’ve tried every possible movement in every possible combination I could think of. Eventually — and after lots of trial and error — I discovered something that worked.
